There is a skit in an episode of Mr. Show (entitled "Recruiters," in season two, I think) about this kind of thing. It's great.

Here's a story about the kid in the Kansas City Star...apparently the local media didn't take the kid seriously and the parents hounded everyone until Reebok listened:
