Update on Postal Service (the band). “We made that record like two years ago and it’s still selling like crazy. I don’t really know why.”

The best part of the whole article: "As part of their deal to make nice, the Postal Service will perform at the annual USPS convention on November 17 in Washington, D.C."

I don't know why either. Was anyone else completely underwhelmed by this record? I thought the music was ok, but the voice (and lyrics) just made me want to turn it off immediately. I wonder if the fact that I've never heard Death Cab, Dntel, etc. has anything to do with it.

I love their main single but the rest of the album all pretty much runs together. They need more variety in their songs. Sure its nice to put out an album of songs you made in the basement but come on!

I was put off by the fact that all the scenesters I know ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. Someone ended up just buying me the damn thing because they thought that it was so good, and I found that it was pretty good. Not an amazing album, but well-written, well-performed, and well-put together. It's an album worth owning for me, but I understand when people say they don't really like it – the emotional indie poppiness is overwhelming at times. I think it's an album that has to be listened to at a certain point in one's life. For most people I know, it's a sentimental album for them, and it's the same for me.

Definatly one of my most played albums. I'll agree with shanecavanaugh here in the fact that you need to be at a certain point in your life to find it enjoyable, and fortunatly i'm at that point now so it works out well. The album's style takes some getting used to, but once I really got into it I couldn't listen to it enough.

I'm a huge fan of DNTEL -- "Life Is Full Of Possibilities" is an emotional, subtle, dark work of art -- but yeah, the Postal Service album bored me to tears. They had a much better collaboration with "(This Is) The Dream Of Evan And Chan" on the DNTEL album. It's really worth checking out if you like IDM-ish electronic with pop tinges.

I love the quip about the Napoleon Dynamite director: "He talks exactly like all the characters in the movie," Gibbard said. "He's like, 'Dude, I've got a sweet concept for the video.'"

I'm ambiguous on the album, but I'm obsessed with "Nothing Better."

What this world needs is more dialogue-driven duets.

postal service is okay, but definitely overrated, and could never live up to dntel's "this is the dream of evan and chan"

The Bush twins like that album.

That makes it uncool.

shanecavanaugh, you are a jackass. Who gives a fuck what "scenesters" like? What is a "scenester"? I repeat, you are an ass. And the album was boring.

Dntel got me in but PS didn't really stack up.

Postal Service playing in DC on Wed Novembr 17?!?!

Details people, DETAILS!!

nathanOct 06, 2004 at 7:25PM

According to reps for Sub Pop records, the Postal Service will be playing 2 songs at a USPS Convention in
Washington DC on November 17.

It is not, however, open to the public or the press.

Information courtesy of Chris Jacobs of the press office at Sub Pop.

The USPS is very hush hush about this convention - no information on it anywhere.

Sorry!
