Friday night is singles night at Wal-Mart in Germany

Friday night is singles night at Wal-Mart in Germany. "The events have become such hits in Germany, increasing Friday night sales 25%, that Wal-Mart has trademarked the name 'Singles Shopping' to deter copycats".

Sorry Wal-Mart, we Belgians have been doing this for years. It's called "Delhaize dating" (Delhaize is the parent company of the American Food Lion markets), and it's quite a rage in the city of Antwerp. There are even unwritten rules: different kinds of products mean different things, like 'searching for a relation, searching for a one night stand, searching for someone of the same gender, ...'

I hope walmarts over there are radically different than they are here. I suppose walmart could be a lot different if you removed the thundering familial herd variable.

They do this at the Kroger near my house. Hyde Park Kroger is known for its uppity, young yuppy crowd.

I'm not joking. They really do have singles night. It's been voted "best place to meet a woman" by the local culture magazine.

Why do I live here?

Chaz Larson says:

The Walmart in Rosenheim, DE is basically indistinguishable from the Walmart in Eden Prairie, MN, Eric. Minor differences in the types of clothing on the shelf and so forth, but once you've been there for a week and kinda lost track of the fact the all the signage is in German and the prices in Euro, it could be Anywhere USA.

If you've been in a Walmart in the US, you'd be able to walk straight to the toy department or whatever.

wal-mart sukks big time. in countries like france for example, shopping at supermarkets is kinda of an cultural experience. your typical wal-mart store misses all that.

produts and prices at wal-mart do sukk as well.

oh, and i don't need a supermarket chain to help me out on that thing about the girls et al...
