There's a definite non-linear distribution in effect here. Most stuff in my visual field just gets glanced at ... but how much time have all of us spent absorbing, say, the kottke.org design?
In a similar vein, I would submit the following:
If you've a user experience designer, you're working with a rapidly depleting finite resource: people's patience.
In the end, we're all working with one big rapidly depleting resource: time. Make the most of it!
