Budget cuts=no overniters for air marshalls, $4bn/mo in Iraq? It just don't add up!. Josh Marshall follows the money. Did I mention the hijacking warning?
Hmmm...perhaps those tax cuts weren't such a good idea after all...
Marshall's assertion that we should "forget balance" and that the task "is to do everything possible to prevent anyone from flying another one of our jets into a building" is over the top. I don't want to see more hijacked planes flying into buildings, but I also don't want to pay more than I already do in taxes and airfare toward the unattainable goal of 100% security, not to mention that pesky erosion of civil liberties. Keeping every single person in the world safe at all costs is a ridiculous and unsustainable policy. As with everything else in the whole entire history of everything, balance is required.
We just need to work a sponsorship deal with, say, Holiday Inn or Red Roof. They get to put their logo on the marshalls' badges and, heck, maybe a banner ad or two on the ready.gov website, and trade it for free room nights.
