After seeing that, I think I'll become a vegetarian. Why would you want to do that to yourself?

margaret says:

that is easily one of the most disgusting things i've ever seen. the close ups of his burger, the meat covered in grease and melted cheese... i don't think i'll be having a burger for a while.

I love the effect of scrolling down that page (by grabbing/pulling the scrollbar). There's so many pictures, its like watching a movie.

Honest to God, this made me miss In-N-Out and crave a grilled cheese. I'm so hungry now. :(

My (largely male) coworkers were standing behind me both hooting and hollering as I scrolled through that. Awesome.

I never thought there would be something that could give me as much heartburn while not eating and during work as the description of a baked Alfredo (baked in a homemade Parmesean cheese, butter, and cream sauced, with chicken and sausage), but, hey, I learn something new everyday.

Back in my fast food days, (actually not that long ago), I witnessed a dude eat 26 Double Chili-Cheese burgers in one sitting. I bet he was regular for a month...

Doesn't In-N-Out Serve a Vegetarian Friendly (not grilled with meat) Boca Burger?

» by curious on Aug 28, 2003 at 07:37 PM
dowingba says:

That's like saying their meat burgers are "meat-eater friendly", which clearly, they aren't.

Stefan Jones says:

Last I had heard, an In-N-Out veggie burger didn't have a patty; it was a bun with lettuce and pickles and such. Honest.

They could well have changed since I'd read about this in the Bay Area two years back.

Afsheen says:

Stefan, you're actually thinking of their Protein Style burger, served wrapped in lettuce instead of the bun. It's an Atkins thing. (And if you ask me, it's weird as hell.)

I am now back to being a vegetarian. Damn you 20x20 eating man. And damn you Eric Schlossinger.

What a wuss. A real man would have eaten the box.

Lukas says:

Eric Schlosser or whoever wrote Fast Food Nation is actually an In-N-Out fan. He was quoted in the New York Times as saying "it's not health food, but it's the real deal" or something to that effect.

I think my favorite part was when he lapped up the sea of molten cheese and grease towards the end of his ordeal. Mmmm!

Craniac says:

Are In-n-Out burgers actually any good, or is it just another lame attempt to find meaning in life, like Krispy Kreme worship?

They're "the real deal" because they are basically just meat, fresh veggies and condiments. I loved them as a kid and still like getting their frys and grilled cheeses once in a while. If you've read fast food nation, you'll hear about how they come out on tops in terms of safe food prep, taste, and even ethical employment practices (they pay people 8-9 bucks an hour to sling burgers instead of minimum wage).

Still, the kooky bible verses hidden on the wrappers always freaked me out.

Dave says:

Stefan: yes they do. It's called a Wish Burger [1]. It's a regular burger minus the pattie.

I wonder if you can get a Protein Style Wish Burger; no pattie, no bun. Just pickles and cheese wrapped in lettuce.

[1] From the song Rubber Biscuit. "A wish sandwich is the kind of sandwich where you have two slices of bread - either rye or white or pumpernickle - and you wish you had some meat. Bow bow bow..."

Will someone please order a Protein Style Wish Burger - I am very interested to read a review. Thanks in advance.

dude, i found out too late about the goatse.cx...when my friend called me wondering about all the puns i had made on my blog about "cramming in too much meat," etc....sweet jesus. i knew i had a bad feeling about that link...

jkottke says:

Sorry about that folks. I changed the link to another photo gallery of some other guy that ate a 20x20 at In-N-Out.

» by jkottke on Aug 29, 2003 at 10:23 PM
kris says:

Yeah, I linked to the same thing. I had a smallish heart-attack when I realized that the url re-directed to goatse.cx, especially since I sent the link to my prudish-boss. And the author of Fast Food Nation is indeed Eric Schlosser, I had a Freudian slip thinking of Laura Schlessinger. My apologies, I'm a little more drunk than usual.

andrew says:

Incidentally, I google for the calorie content in the In-n-out cheeseburger, and found that its 480 calories. So with a small pop, its reasonable to assume that that guy ate 9810 calories in that meal.

It must get *real* sweaty under that guys' chin.

andrew says:

If anyone still cares, b3ta has mirrored the guy's site, minus the goatse.

LUCY says:

I COOKED A 50X50 FOR A GUY AT THE MOUNTAIN VIEW INO AND HE ATE THE WHOLE THING. 20X20 IS NOTHING COMPARED TO THAT.

» by LUCY on Oct 14, 2003 at 05:20 AM
Josh says:

Lucy that is such bullshit...do you really think anyone is going to believe that A. You cooked a cheeseburger with 50 patties and 50 slices of cheese, and B. That someone actually ate the entire thing? The human stomach can't hold that much physical matter...dumbass
