Now, before everyone gives me shit, I'm a big fan of Jackson (Peter not Michael) and I did an all day Triology Marathon when I went to see ROTK. But let me tell you, an audible groan went through the audience after the second fade out (fade outs or white outs - I forget which - there were so many). The next ending was greeted by some giggling and the audience wasn't quite sure when to finally clap, like the ending off an overbearing symphony, with crescendo after crescendo to the bitter end. Gotta admit, I liked some endings better than others, but thought the Director should have had some more back bone. Perhaps my only major complaint, but I was left a little unsastisfied by so many Hollywood Happy endings tacked on to a what I thought was a great movie trilogy. (Now, come on, even you diehard fans, have to admit the scene of Sam, wife and kids was a bit treacly, almost Color Purple Spielburgian.)

alas, more proof of my retardation. i left after the first ending. but maybe that was foolishly wise, as i left satisfied and with a sense of closure.

endings are great as is. after a 10+hr epic, i think its nice to see some closure. which endings could you all have done without?

I will be interested in seeing it 'as intended'. However I still don't think it will win the Best Picture Oscar. Long rant why here.

Boy, that "too many endings" bandwagon has legs. Fewer people would have even noticed that Jackson not used fade-outs between each one.

Oh my, that would have sent audiences fleeing away screaming in droves. I didn't find the movie too fatiguing, but can you imagine after all that, they start yet another battle sequence? Even I couldn't take that.

I've heard that the 14-disc 10th Anniversary Edition LOTR set will include the 8mm test footage of Robin Williams as Tom Bombadil.

4 hours and 10 minutes is about 4 hours too long. Hated it.

The reason that bandwagon has legs: most people had to pee REAL bad by that point in the film. After that first fade-out, everyone was expecting credits and a rush to the urinals. 3+ hours and you expect us to hold the 2 liter of soda we polished off before they lit the signal fires?

I looked at all the people tanking up on overpriced Coke and popcorn before the movie, and I thought, "ha ha, suckers! You'll regret it later!"

I thought the ending where Liv Tyler had a little fling with Gandalf and Aragorn became an overweight, alcoholic bureaucrat strayed too far from the original.

I'd like to see a free, opensource version of "moviemask" so people could make remix controller files and share them on the net. I'd love to see the trilogy condensed to 90 minutes.
