Too easy. The Chancellor has a much better grasp of the English language.

How about:
Howard Dean or Emperor Palpatine:
Since it is clearly no longer possible to take action in conjunction with The [Republic or U.S.], I have reluctantly concluded that we must take unilateral action.
(Howard Dean to President Clinton regarding Bosnia - 1995-07-19)

Maybe John Kerry or Palpatine?
Should the resolve of our allies wane to pursue this matter until an acceptable inspection process has been reinstituted...the [Republic or U.S.] must not lose its resolve to take action.
(John Kerry to President Clinton regarding Saddam Hussein's "ominous" and "grave" threat - 1997-11-09 )

Or was it John Edwards or Emperor Palpatine who endorsed the
use of all necessary means to eliminate the threat
(posed by Saddam Hussein) while answering the question "Do you support Unilateral action against Iraq under any conditions?"

That was only a couple minutes on google. Regardless of your political leanings, it's easy to find quotes from either party that, sadly, could be confused with the tarnishing of a trilogy by adding Jar-Jar, toilet humor, and dead-pan dialogue.

It's not funny. It's not fun.

I assume the point was that there was a similarity between each person's rhetoric. The point didn't hold with me, though; I guessed correctly in each case who was responsible for each remark. The Bush remarks seemed reasonable in the context of our society today, whereas Palpatine's had a more ominous edge.

I think the point was that you'd assume there was going to be a similiarity, then found out that there really wasn't a similarity, and because that was unexpected, you laughed. For example, they didn't really think that you'd think "Now witness the power of this fully operational battle station!" was a Bush quote. It's McSweeney's, not Mad Magazine.

But I thought it was funny that some of Lucas's lines were even dumber than Bush's.

Seriously, though, I wish somebody could explain this.

I thought the point was that you were to insert Bush _into_ the Star Wars movies and Palpatine into the White House, saying the respective lines.

It's a trap!

Jokes get funnier when you explain them.

Dude: ease up. It's humor.
