A list of Reel Pop's ten favorite dystopian films. Running Man, La Jetée, and Blade Runner all make the cut.
La Jetee
After getting an email from a reader last week (thx, david), I poked around a little and found the cult French film La Jetée on Google Video:
The above contains the English voiceover by which some purists cannot abide, but I couldn't find the version with English subtitles, so this will have to do. (The original French version is available.) Some notes on the film:
- It was made in 1962 by Chris Marker and is only 28 minutes long.
- La Jetée is regularly included on all-time best-of lists.
- The film has no dialogue and is almost entirely comprised of still photography.
- Terry Gilliam's Twelve Monkeys was based in part on La Jetée.
I wish I could find the subtitled version. The editing in the version with the French narration is amazing and it's a little off in English.
