Powell is an example of the principled sort of Republican who _could_ have helped with a post-Bush redemption of his party . . . but who has hung on too long, playing Good Soldier.

Now, that tell-all book may be the best he can do.

Colin Powell isn't the only person, place or thing to have been destroyed by the Bush presidency.

Stefan, if Powell does indeed have any principles left, then he will quit right now and publish his tell-all book this October.

He's principled enough to have his son installed as FCC chairman. Just because of upbringing and ethnicity, I'm not letting him off the hook for his complicity in the Bush family's crimes, anymore than I will give Condoleezza Rice any reprieve. This sort of talk is exactly what's wrong with the country these days: no one is accountable anymore.

'How Bush destroyed Powell'. He has the opportunity, and the ammunition, to turn that sentence around. A year ago, who would have thought we'd be in this situation? I'm willing to believe that just about anything could happen in the next 12 months.

off topic alert

Make the buck stop here - hold yourself accountable and describe the Bush family's crimes. Facts only, please.

If you really want to help defeat President Bush, stop the extremist rhetoric. Use facts. The Bush family's crimes? He was AWOL? None of those things will help in the effort for discourse on the real issues that deserve to be at the forefront of this election; foriegn policy, the war on terror, same-sex marriage and the ecomony.

Here's one prescient example:

Better perhaps to collate it in regards to this:

Sending off troops to die in the name of lies and theft is a pretty horrible thing to do. I feel no sympathy at all for Powell. Bush did not destroy him - he destroyed his own credibility.

If you want to talk about "off-topic alert" (!), I'll be happy to discuss your comments regarding same-sex marriage and the economy -- and how Bush and Friends relate to these matters -- off list. Or even other Bush family crimes as they relate to ABB/North Korea, CIA/South America, and present day Halliburton and "Kenny-boy" Enron issues. The man is a verifiable criminal and is putting us in more and more hot water every day.
