According to this story, Timberlake and CBS are both claiming it was just an accident - or to use their terminology - a "wardrobe malfunction."

it's a total coverup. all american news sources are reporting it as an accident, but according to foreign news cbs knew about it beforehand and issued an apology only after receiving complaints from viewers.

if anyone watched it, it was CLEARLY part of the performance. i find it odd that cbs would approve of a bare breast yet ban the bush ad.

Well according to BBC.co.uk, the performance was produced by MTV. The same network that gave us the Britney-Madonna kiss.

Of course both MTV and CBS are owned by the same company, so it isn't all together suprising.

This photo looks like some bad Edwina Scissorboobs meets randy college dolt imitation. Do TV creatives (or uncreatives) really believe this is the pinnacle of sports entertainment? And I don't think we really need (or want) to see naked Jackson flesh at this point in time...trial and all. But at least Justin is over 18.

Kinda funny that Janet Jackson & Justin Timberlake get all the comments when the Helmut Newton tribute below gets nothin'.

To me, Newton's work still is shocking, especially compared to what went down on the Superbowl halftime show.

Unless she has nipples of iron, I find it unlikely that Janet would have been wearing that nipple shield "just because". It would have been too easy for it to get caught on her costume when she was dancing. I know people who tape their stuff down to prevent that.

Personally, I think it intentionally obscures the nipple just enough that the pictures are okay for the media to show.

What I found more eerie was the "clockwork orange" costuming of her droog-like dance 'posse' while she was clad in a female version of pinhead's outfit.

Well, I live in the Netherlands and the only thing I found disturbing was the vague and hypocrit apologies afterward. If you show your tit because you need more publicity, don't be ambivalent about it. Just say: 'hey its just a nice breast, get used to it'. You can see breasts every day, the cheerleaders were half naked and here in Holland we had full nakedness on television from the sixties on (and nobody made apologies).
