It's Paul's work on the front-end and the back-end. I was surprised to see the design resemble that of Ftrain, tho...perhaps they wanted to get the tech in place and worry about the design a little later.

He does have a fascinating engine running his site.

And uniquely suited to content like harper's, I've been bouncing around for an hour now.

Actually, Ftrain looks like Harper's, not the other way around. I've been testing the design ideas I came up with for Harper's on Ftrain (great way to find out ahead of time which JavaScript is broken in IE 5.0.2.3.4.5.3.2.567.4.3.3). Now, Harper's will keep its look and feel, at least for a while, and Ftrain will change at my whim.

ok, maybe it's just me, but under camino .7 on OSX10.2.8 at www.harpers.org, i get the old design. at just harpers.org i get the new look. what do you think?

Terrence: we just tranferred our hosting provider. It can take a day or two.

So does this mean Harpers benefits from all the RDF categorization, taxonomy, and skullduggery that ftrain features? Will there be new features taking advantage of it (or are they already there?)?

Matt: http://www.harpers.org/Connections.html is the taxonomy. It's MUCH bigger than Ftrain's, maybe 500 topics.

Damnit Paul, you really need to release the Ftrain sitekit. Pretty please?

It'll be a little while, but that's definitely the plan. Let me have some lead time!

Paul's written up a short piece about the Harper's redesign.

Paul, you and Harper's together is the best thing on the internet all year. Please let me second the vote for the Ftrain sitekit--it's amazing stuff! Every time I start to write for my personal site I think, "If only I could make it like Paul Ford's...."

Add my please on the site kit, please.

Wow. I sure hope Paul had some hand in that. If not, it's a pretty egregious theft of design.
